Her fingers discreetly move from her lap to her mouth, followed by mild crunches as she grinds her teeth. The loudness in her head splits apart sky rivers, but the rhythm of her jaws brings small comfort. Chew, eat, repeat the experience of salty toughness, then a bitter burst, then a nutty sweetness mixing with aftertones of mush.
The floorboards before her warmed and cooled and warmed and cooled as she ate. And then they began to creak and vibrate. Her brow furrows as a pair of feet enter the top of her vision.
