We do know, however, that a caveat is often placed by Malay scribes at the end of their MSS, asking their succeeding colleagues to correct and improve them as they see fit for the next volume:

Barang yang ada khilafnya, barang siapa Tuan-Tuan yang membaca surat ini, patut diperbaikikan; jangan diahmakkan pada pekerjaan yang kebaikan itu, Supaya sempurnalah perkataannya itu (Hikayat Mahsudhak 1823: 345) 

[Whatever errors found herein, whosoever shall read these writings ought to correct them; verily do not belittle such good deeds, for it will ensure the complenetess of these words.

Research is always ongoing.

We will only ever create an incomplete picture.

Finding more does not make picture more complete.

Imagining what is missing, & why.
