To design good places, the approach to placemaking must look at both the use of the place and the activities that (may) take place there, the so-called 'software'; the physical design at the human scale, the so-called hardware and what strategies, partnerships and instruments are needed to maintain this in a sustainable, long-term way, the so-called orgware.
Software, hardware & orgware ('triangle of use') - Karssenberg et. al (2016)
In order to create meaningful places, one needs to consider these three approaches that influence each other; if you make changes in one sphere, changes in the others will follow.
Hardware is the physical appearance of buildings, streets and the city. The
design and building rules that can make a difference in creating a more
people-centred city.
Orgware is the way we organize a good place. How can stakeholders work together. How can we give people influence to improve their surroundings. How can we organize this is in a sustainable and viable way. It can be adapted on different scales by creating teams and coalitions. Various time-frames such as quick wins and long-term strategies have to be taken into account.
Software is the least tangible part, nevertheless, equally important. It regards the user's experience and their perceivance of the built environment. Aspects such as wayfinding in the area and the programming are crucial to consider, as is the order of functions in a place. It is also essential to incorporate a mixture of uses within the area and in public
spaces, on both smaller and larger scale (Karssenberg, et. al, 2016).

This 3000 square meter plot was available we were able to organize a variety of activities and to get the residents to think of this as a place upon this.

Listening to the needs and wants of roughly 500 residents. we also organized the workshop in the local park where we invited children and their parents to create models with us. Pilot experiments based on the feedback we got we took extra care to come up with very fun and enjoyable design in order to communicate our intentions to the residents and also to explain the objectives and purpose clearly.
From space to place. 10 people basis and was known as pigeon park we were able to transform it based on the feedback we got into a place where 180 people visit in a day.

Constraints we couldn't do all of them but it was decided that we would choose one to do every month on and what we call it as a try day.
We organise the diverse range of events such as basketball dances skateboards as well as events that targeted people who would not be normal users of this future sports arena for example a dog run or a park that you can just take off your shoes and relax in and this year someone was super hot and so they were many requests for some water park and also for bon odori, a dance festival and a fireworks.
We didn't just simply do nice and pleasant to do in a park but all of the contents were very much skewed towards the future arena so something that would get all the participants to really get passionate about and be involved. With the opening and of the arena five years into the future we wanted to organize things so that people would develop and fondness for this space and to create memories that they can look back upon.
Placemaking using masking tape:
Park Located in the center of Yokohama it's very big but normally people pedestrians would simply just walk along the perimeter and the park itself was always empty. Before we developing the space we want first of all get feedback from the residents on how they viewed the space what they would like to do using this space through by organizing a masking tape workshop
So this was an opportunity for us to organize a fun activity for a space where people normally didn't gather so that they would develop an affinity for it moving forwards. Which is located in shibuya center of Tokyo is one that is often used by many people but for people living in the Urban areas they don't necessarily develop a personal affinity for these kinds of spaces
Location involved us decorating part of the park ahead of time using the masking tape and then asking whoever happened to come to the park to continue doing the declaration for us
Which is something you would know not normally be allowed to do was an exciting and novel experience for them as well and so the participants not only became audiences but us they ended up becoming collaborators.
