Week 7: Academic Reading tips I + Reflection

Expository writing : manipulating critical thinking and and generating fresh perspectives preconceived and inhibitive thoughts restricts newer mental states. Open mindedness, transparency and willingness to experience new things Inquisitiveness, you actually want to discover, in order to enter a research mindset. 5 "whys":a healthy doubting aptitude:  what words are used? what words are repeated? Are the syntaxes connected? Narrative voice? POV? Tone and literary devices used? Establish a strong interest enough to bear a willingness to be wrong to see new possibilities. In other words, be flexible. Support and elaborate your sparklets and specific angles to write clear-cut essays. THOUGHT IMPACT: TENSE DISENGAGED STRESS UNINTERESTING change out these thoughts with a research basis state as mentioned above: Literal meaning, nuanced meaning, then to slow read Select passages. Anonnate text Read through a literal level to glean information of the plot Diction,  tone,  rhetor...

Seminar Tasks: Week 5 Good night portfolio

"Do not go gentle into that good night" by Dylan Thomas 750 Do not go gentle into that good night,       Old age should burn and rave at close of day;    you should flare out with the last of life Rage, rage against the dying of the light.    fight against death with your dying breath Though wise men at their end know dark is right,    accept inevitability. understand it. Because their words had forked no lightning they    words arent as powerful as they seem Do not go gentle into that good night.       against death, the blabber of tongues cannot win Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright          against death, good deeds are futile    Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.       ah but still, don't give up.

Long ago, our Chinese ancestors traveled across the seas to the shores of Malaya to earn a living. They weren't well-educated, but they valued fierce loyalty amongst each other. They were men of honour, wholly trusting their lives to comrades, sticking together to survive in a foreign land. During the 1950s, a man settled in Pangkor Island's fishing village. He was called the venerable brother Zhen, as he never failed to help his 'brothers' in need. Once, Zhen promptly sacrificed his assets to help a brother sorely in need of money for his toppling business. In time, the business recovered and even enjoyed great success, but the ungrateful friend never rep...

好奇捅破了虚妄,捅破了权威,捅出了真相 真相如伤口流出的血水般涌出,可是,这样真的好吗? dont question. we already have enough on our minds by now. Let the funeral monks do their job. we paid them well. Gramma is taken care of.

Fish

The old fisherman always said that Fishes in his accustomed area will always win over the exotic fishes. Why, You ask? He broods, and says that the newer tastes are indeed unique, flabbergasting and delightful to the palette. But, after months of foreign fish, one naturally longs for the taste of home. He acknowledges that the yearning of the fish of his youth had never left him. A male thinks with 3 parts Logos Analyzes and is satisfied with the matches it deems fit for the body's best interests, maximizing living utilities and ensuring a content survival partner that is compatible to a standard of living suited to the person. Loneliness

Loneliness releases cortisol≈cortisone, which is responsible for higher alert levels and this in turn causes expenditure in terms of stress and worry, activating the fight or flight system, and\or inducing short term pain relief. Long term pressure like this exhausts the body, in the long run, and breaks down neural bonds, and that causes the immune system to be suppressed: breaking down the defense system caustically. Feelings of loneliness are hypothesized to have implications for physiological stress processes, including activity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.  Scholars have examined the impact of loneliness on neuroendocrine, immune and cardiovascular responses (Uchino et al., 1996). Loneliness is associated with higher blood pressure (Cacioppo et al., 2002; Steptoe et al., 2004; Hawkley et al., 2006), and impaired or underactive immune function (Pressman et al., 2005). Studies have found possible links between loneliness and cancer (Fox et al., 1994) a...

Conflict

I live for conflict.  My very presence screams for conflict. I view life as a stage shared with actors and actresses who engage each other to squeeze out stories. I am silent in the community of speakers. I am with voice in the community of silence. I fight for gay rights in the circle of conservatives.  I reel in my gay friends with conservative thoughts. I show the existence of God to non-believers. I question the existence of God to theists. Is there a definite answer? Do I care for a definite answer?  No. I live for conflict, remember? Or maybe I do, but that in itself is another sweet, sweet argument that is saved to be savored at another time. On the surface, I see a duality of our Nature. The balance that is presented in our blueprints of thought, with a subconscious understanding of what is good and bad, in general. Below the surface, i see uniqueness and myriads of characters surging up to seize the day, regardless of right and wrong. I feel that they just ...

Leeter to a young poet

Rome, 23rd December, 1903. My dear Herr Kappus, You shall not be without a greeting from me at Christmastime, when in the midst of this festivity your loneliness weighs more heavily upon you than usually. But when you notice that it is great, rejoice in it; for you must ask yourself what that loneliness would be, that had not greatness; there is only one kind of loneliness. It is great and not easy to bear, and there comes to nearly everyone the hours, when he would gladly exchange it for any intercourse however common-place and cheap, for the semblance of a slight understanding with the next best, with the most unworthy. . . . But perhaps those are just the hours when the loneliness grows; for its growing is as painful as the growing of boys and as sad as the beginning of spring. But that should not confuse you. It is still only loneliness that is necessary —great inner loneliness. To retreat into oneself and meet nobody for hours on end—that is what one must be able to attain. ...
